-
- Unconsciousness is a sign of a serious illness or injury.
-
- Symptoms: drowsy and disoriented, incoherent when roused, unresponsive and
- unaware of surroundings.
-
- As with all serious injuries:
-
- Check and maintain an open airway, restore breathing and circulation
-
- If you know the cause, give first aid for the cause.
-
-
- Immediate Treatment:
-
- 1. Maintain an open airway
-
- 2. Loosen tight clothing
-
- 3. Keep the victim lying down
-
- 4. If the cause is unknown, do not move the victim
-
- 5. If the cause is known, and a head, neck or back injury is not suspected,
- place the victim on his side to prevent choking.
-
- 6. Check for possible cause of unconsciousness & keep the victim warm
-
- 7. If not fully recovered in 5 minutes, call for help.
